Create a legacy

Follow these steps to set up a legacy.

Written by Cristiana Ghinea

This first step to creating a legacy is to start an enquiry.

When the legacy becomes active (for example, when the benefactor has become deceased) you can begin to process the legacy and pay off the items that have been left to your organisation.

To create a Legacy:

  1. Click Fundraising, then Legacies.

  2. Click Legacies, then New.

  3. Use the Search button in the Benefactor Serial No. field to select the name of the person leaving the legacy and complete the fields that are relevant.

  4. Enter the details of the benefactor's will in the Will area of the Details tab.

  5. Click Save from the toolbar to go to the first stage in the legacy process.

Below are the stages of the legacy process.

Enquiry

At this stage you can add the details of the beneficiaries to the legacy record.

  1. Click Add Items to add legacy items.

  2. When the legacy becomes active, click the Registered workflow stage.

  3. Enter a date of death for the benefactor.

Registered

Add the legacy items that have been left to your organisation and click the In Progress workflow button to process the legacy.

In Progress

You can now begin to pay off the legacy items. When all the payments have been made, move to the Complete stage.

Complete

Once you have selected the Complete workflow button you will be prompted if there are any items which are not marked as received or cancelled.

If you choose to continue then any unpaid items will be marked as cancelled and any paid items will be marked as received.

📌 Note: At the 'Complete' stage there are no further options, which means you have come to the end of the legacy process. However, you can go back to any stage by selecting the workflow buttons.
