Send mailings using the Dotdigital integration

The Dotdigital integration allows us to send mailing data over to Dotdigital so that the mailing can be processed in bulk. This article highlights the processes linking the two systems together.

The Dotdigital integration allows you to send bulk mailing campaigns which would otherwise be too large or complex to handle within Access Charity CRM.

You will first need to make sure that the Dotdigital API credentials have been entered into Access Charity CRM.

Set up the Dotdigital integration

Before sending mailings, add your Dotdigital credentials in Access Charity CRM.

  1. Click Admin, then Integrations.

  2. Click Third Party Credentials.

  3. Click New, then select DotMailer.

  4. Enter a name for the integration, and add your Dotdigital API key and password.

  5. Click Save.

Next, create a new mailing and follow through the normal steps until the mailing is at the Send stage. For further guidance on this, take a look at our article on creating a mailing.

Send contacts to Dotdigital

Create a mailing using your usual steps. When your mailing is ready to send, follow these steps to send the contact list to Dotdigital.

  1. Click Create Email, then click Send with Third Party.

  2. If your organisation uses email preferences, select which preferences to send.

📌 Note: If you only select Email, any contacts who haven’t confirmed their preference will not be included.

  3. Select the Dotdigital credentials you added earlier.

  4. Choose the mailing list you want to use in Dotdigital.

📌 Note: Mailing lists contain groups of contacts and can be reused for future campaigns.

Access Charity CRM will then send your mailing data to Dotdigital for processing.

Track campaign results in Charity CRM

After sending your campaign in Dotdigital, you can track opens, errors, bounces, and unsubscribes in Charity CRM.

  1. Click Create Email, then click Start Downloading Tracking Data.

  2. Choose the campaign you want to track. This should be the campaign you just sent from Dotdigital.

  3. Click OK to confirm.

Unsubscribes received from Dotdigital are managed according to the settings in the Unsubscribe Action field on the Third Party Email tab of your mailing.
