Locate a validation error within a datafeed

This article explains what to do when the system tells you there's a problem with the data inserted in bulk to Charity CRM.

Written by Cristiana Ghinea

Datafeeds allow bulk insert of data into Charity CRM, however they are still susceptible to data validation rules. If there's a problem with the data, the system will tell you.

Where to find validation errors

The last step of a datafeed involves validating and posting the data into the system.

At this stage, the process may fail if there's any data found to be incorrect. Charity CRM will inform you of this failure, and take you to the Status tab where the failures are logged.

The error details sublist within this tab will give further details on the cause of the error.

📌 Note: The errors are made as intuitive as possible. If an error states that a specific field can't be set to null, it means that one or more records within the upload have this data missing, and it's required for the record to be processed.

Correct validation errors

Once you're aware of what the error is, you'll need to correct it. This involves identifying the problematic record among a sheet of many.

To find out which records have failed validation:

  1. Click the Data tab to view the data held within the spreadsheet.

  2. At the top right of the sheet, click the Filter button then Show validation errors.

This will filter our sheets data down to just show the records which hit an error during processing. If there are multiple errors, you can view the specific error a record hit by looking at the Validation Failed column header.

Once the data is corrected in your data sheet, upload it to the feed and attempt to process it again. If there are no other issues, the data will be processed as usual.
