Mailchimp integration

This article explains what Mailchimp integration is and how it benefits you.

Written by Cristiana Ghinea

Mailchimp is a comprehensive email marketing platform. When integrated with Access Charity CRM, you have access to powerful email automation. Access Charity CRM can add contacts to Mailchimp via individual mailings or automatically maintained audiences.

For each email sent from Mailchimp, Access Charity CRM pulls down the statistics of the campaign exposing key engagement data and automatically updating contacts who unsubscribe.

For audience integration, CRM can synchronise with a Mailchimp audience. This process synchronises tags and groups as well as pulls in campaign data and any unsubscribed users.

Audience integration enables your organisation to run Marketing automation through Mailchimp. This can take time to set up but boosts engagement with your supporters and increase the personalisation and frequency of communication for less ongoing effort.

Terminology

Mailchimp has its own terminology as follows:

Terminology

Description

Audience

All contact data that's used in any of the marketing automation, batch mailings, newsletters, transactional emails, or reporting - essentially an address book.

Organisations can have multiple audiences but try to keep as few of these as possible as this keeps costs down and helps you learn more about the person's interactions.

The best practice is to have one primary audience and use tags and segments to organise and target contacts. Keeping one audience means you’re not double counting contacts for licencing.

Tags

An attribute that can be assigned to a contact. Mailchimp can then use this to drive logic. These are essential for marketing automation as flows can be activated by tags being added or removed.

Segments

A subset of contacts within Mailchimp – essentially a filter that can be used to drive automation or reporting logic.

Groups

These are usually self-managed eg. Donors can subscribe or leave. Often there are interest groups that allow people to sign up or opt out from certain interests or marketing purposes, that's used by the organisation.

The organisation can publish them, but people can manage their preferences.
